Risk of litigation minimised

We have adopted the Professional Theatre Access Award as the standard of training for all employees who routinely work in hospital clinical areas. The provision of this course minimises the risk to our company of litigation and identifies for our employees company liability, vicarious liability and the requirement for compliance and professionalism.

A long overdue move towards a standard

HCS’s professional training qualification is a long overdue move towards establishing a standard that will meet the interests of all those involved in healthcare delivery, thus further protecting that group which we all strive to serve – patients.

This is critical for ethical companies

We recognise the importance of professional qualifications in almost every area of industry, and medical device sales and support is no exception. New employees enter the medical device business with a wide variety of previous hospital experience, so it is critical for ethical companies to ensure that all who will be working in the patient environment are trained to the same high level of competence. It is equally important for hospital staff to be able to recognise that company personnel visiting the clinical areas have sufficient understanding of working practices to ensure that patient outcomes and staff procedures are not adversely affected by their presence. The course meets both these requirements, with the personal ID badge awarded upon successful completion giving hospital staff instant recognition of the holder’s professionalism in this respect.

Truly professional and excellent content

One of the best courses I have ever attended – truly professional, excellent content delivered with an easy style by informed and knowledgeable trainers. I should have done this years ago. Attending has helped me understand the risks and manage my business more effectively. It made me aware of legal implications that could be produced due to my presence, my support and my actions and be focus in the safety and good performance of the surgical team in order to get the best patients results.

Setting a new competence standard

This new qualification sets a competence standard for the medical devices industry. Product specialists with this qualification will have demonstrated their skills and knowledge, which means that their presence in the operating theatre will not compromise patient safety. This is the solution to a problem most people don’t realise exists. Patients, their relatives and other members of the public may not be aware that medical devices personnel are frequently present in operating theatres. However, the relationship between surgeon and medical devices specialist is a critical one. As medical and surgical equipment becomes increasingly sophisticated, surgeons and theatre staff need product support and training provided by the medical devices industry.

Highly recommended to all companies

It was essential that I quickly grasped the fundamental process required to work as a support to the healthcare professional, rather than as a hindrance. The course gave me a detailed insight to the implications of my team’s activities and I would strongly recommend that all companies ensure their sales professionals, irrespective of presumed experience, take advantage of this unique development opportunity. This will ensure we continue to move towards a standard of excellence commensurate with the needs and desires of our customers.
